Priviet! Want some vodka? No, some russian art!

Russian and very talented “photo artist” Oleg Dou is a multi award-winning based in Moscow. Because of his artistic family he faced art ever since he was a little kid. He got inspired by a book with Proto-Renaissance artists. With his photography he’s trying to show people in a not stereotypical way, he’s always been interested in human individuality and self-expression. His work reaches a point between oposities such as alive and dead, attractive and disturbing… It leaves no doubt that his powerful images have been published many times and won several prizes including “The Photographer of the Year Fineart” in 2008. Love the fact that he combines conventional photography with graphic rendering techniques in order to produce matching portraits of an unsettling nature. Super unique!

“Дело в шляпе – The matter in the hat – everything is good; all in the order, all are solved, it is successfully settled. On the successful completion, the outcome of anything.”

  1. Attractive and disturbing indeed. I see what you’re saying with proto-Renaissance art… When I try to think of art from that time I think of a lot of memento mori and art that also shows beauty and death simultaneously… The point I think being to show that beauty fades, etc… He’s doing the same in a completely contemporary context. Very interesting! Great post!

  3. Unsettling is the right word..but really beautiful! My favorites are the “cameo” position (woman glancing down over her shoulder) and the woman with gills. Thanks for posting these!

  4. Exquisite & brilliantly stunning! I love his studies that are more bizarre than typical. His editing style is not just fun but expressive. Thank you for sharing. I may never have found his work without you~
