Ghosts of Europe

Europe Now and Then (1940s) : Classic Photography

Russian photographer Sergey Larenkov carefully photoshops old World War II photos, over recent shots to make the past come alive.  After St. Petersburg, he made collages in Paris, Moscow, Berlin, Prague, Vienna and other cities.

These are simply stunning, excellent execution.

“It’s very interesting to find the point where another photographer once stood. Suddenly, you see an old world with your very own eyes. You are transported back in time, it’s almost as if you’ve stepped into a time machine. Sometimes, this is scary.” Sergey Larenkov

Europe is so well gardened that it resembles a work of art, a scientific theory, a neat metaphysical system. Man has re-created Europe in his own image.  Aldous Huxley

  1. wow this is just amazing work. there is so much history in Europe but so little people realize this when they casually walk down the streets in pursuit of the next shopping discount. These pictures illustrate the 2 realities flawlessly. Great find!

  2. Amazing Post!
Every time I’m in Europe I can’t stop thinking of how many things happened there, and how many people walked those streets before me!
