Forget special effects, prosthetics and hyper-detailed makeup; all you need to turn a willing friend into a monster is a little Scotch tape. Photographer Wes Naman used the unassuming office supply to transform human faces into bizarre flesh mashups, creating a unique series both amusing and horrifying, full of deep meaning and metaphor, both negative and positive, a social commentary that defies all common sense.
According to Wired, Naman stumbled upon the technique while wrapping Christmas presents with his assistant when the two began toying with the sticky medium, contorting their faces to the point where they were unrecognizable. What started as a side project turned into a photographic adventure as Naman embarked on capturing his friends in truly silly states.
Do you find these photos hilarious, horrifying, or a little bit of both?
One of the reasons I like tape is because it’s part of pop culture and it’s readily available. For me, to be able to go any store and pick up a roll of Scotch tape and a newspaper means that I can make art for the rest of the day. It’s a compact studio.

This is genius. Love everyone.
Funny and scary at the same time. Looks painful in some sort of twisted beautiful way.
Best use of tape is over spouse’s mouth.
Some are funny, some are horrifying, most look like plastic surgery gone horribly wrong. Some seem to expose the real person behind the image they try to project.
I love art that reveals the potential of overlooked materials!
The series, which includes 33 photos of men and women with Scotch tape wrapped around different parts of their faces, offers expressions ranging from hilarious to horrified.
Creative. Enjoyed this a lot.
