Ink riders

07/17/2012 by chicquero

“There’s a place where people can ride the ink,” says Alberto Seveso describing his latest project. A graphic designer and illustrator from Italy was already famous for his high-speed photographs of ink mixing with water, and this time he comes back with these little Lego guys (love Lego) surfing wicked waves of amazing rolling blue ink. Super cool, dude! Life is not a journey to the grave with intentions of arriving safely in a pretty well-preserved body, but rather to […]

Everyday people required

07/14/2012 by chicquero

Spencer Tunick loves to put on a show, preferably one with tons of naked bodies. Location (public)  is essential, although he can no longer shoot in the USA.  Because of the nature of his work which explores and expands the social, political and legal issues surrounding art in the public sphere,  Tunick has been arrested five times while attempting to work outdoors in New York City. Soon after his fifth arrest in Times Square in 1999,” determined to create his work […]

Food & fashion mash ups

07/12/2012 by chicquero

So who says food and fashion don’t go together? Certainly not the foodies behind Bon Appétit as they’ve invited South African blogger Diana of Miss Moss to share her brilliant food and street style mash ups as part of a weekly series on their blog.  In it, Diana takes an entirely visual approach matching the textures, colors and patterns of an outfit with a complementary dish. Oh, and she’s a food lover, of course, who has “a penchant for nice cheese, good beer, […]

60s Skate

07/10/2012 by chicquero

Did you know that from 1960 to 1963, over fifty million skateboards were sold in the US? Skateboarding was clearly becoming a growing sport and eventually in May of 1965, this fun-loving street activity landed on the cover of Life Magazine. These images, snapped by staff photographer Bill Eppridge in New York City, are as stylish and timeless as they were over 50 years ago. Wouldn’t you love to see more New Yorkers on skateboards these days like in California? My most […]

Grandpa’s Records!

07/07/2012 by chicquero

My Grandpa Jud used to play records for me all the time as a kid. I would sit on his floor while he propped his feet up, sat back in his worn leather chair, and smoked apple tobacco from his pipe. Whether it was rock or gospel, grandpas head would nod to the rhythm of the beat. I would always know what record was playing by the spinning colors and patterns in the center of the player. The rotating gradients […]

Final supper!

07/02/2012 by chicquero

Henry Hargreaves has put together a collection of pictures recreating some of the oddest requests inmates made hours before they were executed. I love the fact that you can see a little corner of their odd personalities. Henry restaged each meal in his studio, with everything down to the table cloth and cutlery matching the era of the execution. The inmates themselves — who were refused alcohol — could only receive a meal costing up to £25. Henry said: “I tried to recreate […]

Berlin based artist Kerstin Zu Pan has been drawing and painting for a long time. When she began her studies of the arts, she gravitated to photography as her medium of choice – and with it, refined her very unique visual style while combining the languages of various media. using her imagination like a brush, Kerstin’s lens takes the familiar and rearranges it, catching beauty by surprise when it plays around in rare, unobserved moments. She has worked her craft […]

Tadao Cern is a Lithuanian photographer that has created a new collection of wind-pushed portraits entitled “Blow Job”. The lighthearted series captures various random people enduing gale-force winds funneled directly at their face. The close-range images were photographed in a public photo shoot which took place during The Design Week of černiauskas’s native vilnius, Lithuania as visitors to Tadao’s studio were given the opportunity to participate in this air-blown series. The artist says of the project, “I wanted to do […]

Liquid flower and vases photography artwork by Jack Long chicquero

Vessels and Blooms

06/14/2012 by chicquero

“Vessels and Blooms” is a photo series of splashing liquids that resemble flowers in vases. Photographer Jack Long captured each image in one high speed exposure, without any Photoshop trickery. They are created by photographing fast-moving droplets of paint as they fall through the air. Artist Jack Long, 53, spends months painstakingly planning and testing each work before capturing them with a high-speed camera. He uses water mixed with thickeners, pigments and dyes. The paint is suspended in air for a split second and he […]

Ryan Schude is a Los Angeles based photographer that focus his artwork around a conceptual and narrative framework.  This is a cool series of  ”vintage cars portraits”, shot mostly with his Lomo Lubitel 166+. I love the effect of Lomo photographs, perfect faded colors and beautiful lighting, creating this cool vintage vibe. “I hooked up my accelerator pedal in my car to my brake lights. Josh Sommers - Stereographic Projections photography chicquero

Little Planets

05/27/2012 by chicquero

The works of american artist Josh Sommers carve out their context, somewhere along the boundaries of landscape photography, art, mathematics, and technology.  There’s a crispness to these photos, in that they appear to have been planned from the beginning instead of having an effect slapped on afterward. The stereographic projection, in geometry, is a particular mapping (function) that projects a sphere onto a plane. The projection is defined on the entire sphere, except at one point — the projection point. It is conformal, meaning that it preserves angles. It is neither isometric nor […]

The Beatles Mania

05/22/2012 by chicquero

Since The Beatles don’t need introduction, I’m done with this paragraph (just joking!). Well, this is a very cool collection that I found in Abduzeedo and I couldn´t handle it. As a huge fan of the forever trendy genius Liverpool guys I had to post it. This collection is a mixed bag consisting of pictures, pop art, toys, album covers, pictures, concert tickets, etc… Even for the “non-fanatic” ones should be interesting. Hope you enjoy it! Light painted dresses

05/21/2012 by chicquero

Creative photography by Atton Conrad, a London-based advertising and art photographer. “It was the Futures Light’ story in 125 Magazine where he light painted dresses on to models that the development of his light painting techniques began. They were further honed on the international Hennessy print Campaign ‘Blended with Talent’ for Louis Vitton Moet Hennessy after his switch to art and advertising, a more fertile arena for the techniques. The process is an intensly visceral one, almost a dance with […]

Drowning in watercolor?

05/20/2012 by chicquero

Digging deep into his subject to unearth their inherent strengths and vulnerabilities, Los Angeles based photographer Giuliano Bekor creates images that evoke drama and sensuality, always staying true to his unique vision. A mastery of unconventional lighting techniques and a willingness to incorporate unpredictable elements into his photography further intensifies his emotionally raw, yet aesthetically glamorous style. By mixing classical elements with his visionary perspective of modern culture and love for that which makes us human, Giuliano is revolutionizing the […]

Dressed to kill in sharp suits, corsets, and masks by stylist Alberto Murtra, these ladies radiate a mysterious aura which makes men fall to their knees… “Ever seen females […]

Pin me with sunnies!

05/16/2012 by chicquero

Philip Karlberg’s last editorial for Plaza Magazine plays a funny game with the characteristic accessory of sunglasses and introduces “pin art” at the same time. Karl Lagerfeld, John Belushi, Jack O, Johnny Depp, Karl Lagerfeld, Lady Gaga and Steve McQueen (in the following order)… all of them are more themselves with sunnies on! This is the way the photographer has transformed the still life into a little mystery. Eyewear is the main visual clue; painted pins conform the rest of […]

Eggs-ploding!

05/15/2012 by chicquero

Great pics by Brooklyn fashion photographer Henry Hargreaves. Hargreaves, who has snapped pictures for Ralph Lauren, Christie’s, GQ, Nylon, and others, shot the photos here as a side project with his friend, the prop stylist Caitlin Levine. Together,  they filled out a bunch of eggs with a psychedelic mix of glitter and neon-colored paint. Then they dropped the eggs on the ground, and Hargreaves tried to capture the cinematic moment when they exploded all over the place. Simple and quite magical, perfect pop […]
