Cartoon Skull Masks for a Halloweenish mode.

10/31/2012 by chicquero

Happy Halloween guys! We just found out about the artwork of Jannis Markopoulos and really enjoyed his oil on canvas “Cartoon Skull Mask” series. “The mask is an object worn over or in front of the face of a skull to hide the identity of it and by its own features to establish a part of a cartoon being. This essential characteristic of hiding and revealing personalities or moods is common to all masks. As cultural objects they have been used […]

Creepy Fashion Collage

10/18/2012 by chicquero

Dina Lynnyk is based in Kiev, Ukraine. She studied at Kiev National University of design and technology and graduated in 2008. After her graduation in 2008, she was chosen as a winner of Harpers Bazaar Fashion Forward as a best young fashion designer 2011. Directions of Dina’s work are collages and fashion design. Some prints are designed by herself, and she finds inspiration in many different directions, such as artists and streets objects. Utterly unnerving, the images may feature young women […]

Zombie Portraits

10/15/2012 by chicquero

Nice portraits of zombified famous characters by Andre De Freitas, photographer and illustrator from Lima, Peru. Freitas studied in Full Sail University and got a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Animation. But oddly enough, the concept of stillness captured his imagination, and he focused more on illustration. Instead of just drawing, he tried to imagine himself taking photos of his subjects. That way the illusion of stillness would be a little more believable, almost like a photograph. After that, his insertion into the world of […]

Sweet & Spooky Hallows!

10/31/2011 by chicquero

Venezuelan artist Mariana Monteagudo creates super cute (and kinda scary) sculptures made of hard latex and other synthetic derivatives. Little heroes, versions of action figures, cartoon characters and Barbie dolls are the sources of her inspiration. A look from the distance to the icons of our society, trying not to take them for granted, but showing a different side, sometimes dark and frightening is totally what Mariana wants us to get from her artwork. The idea is that the viewer […]

Trick or treat? Trick!

10/31/2011 by chicquero

Tim Burton’s Magical Fashion Halloween, a contraction of All-Hallows-Eve, is an annual festival observed on October 31.  Some cool traditions such as “trick or treating”, costume parties, and carving lanterns from real pumpkins which are now cultivated specially for this purpose. (Check it out the post about the Art of Pumpkin carving). I love this fabulous, creepy shoot directed by Tim Burton (Tim’s website is fantastic),  and shot by the great photographer Tim Walker. Can’t go wrong with a double, surreal dose […]

The ART of pumpkin carving

10/26/2011 by chicquero

Pumpkin Art Ray from Villafane Studios was born in Queens, New York. At a very young age Ray showed a knack for art; a passion that his mother approvingly encouraged him to pursue. From 1993 to 2006 Ray taught Art for students grade K-12 in Bellaire, Michigan. It was during his teaching tenure that Ray began “dabbling” in pumpkin sculpting, initially as projects with his students. After several custom-carved requests from students’ parents, Ray realized he was on to something […]

Caricatures, portraits and some clowns!

10/19/2011 by chicquero

Paradise Portraits, Circa 2001 Ubber photographer Erwin Olaf  (Amen!), born in 1959, from Netherlands and lives in Amsterdam (jealous). Erwin has an insane portfolio which includes these portraits, in a series called Paradise Portraits. I love how expressive they look. Great models, sweet make-up and  an Erwin twist? I’m all in! Look at their eyes, can you get what their thinking? Let’s do ourselves a favor and take a look at some of his work. I was going to have cosmetic surgery until I noticed […]

I´ll double dare you.

10/13/2011 by chicquero

Daring Do! Vogue 2008 Photography by Craig McDean, Craig McDean is a British fashion photographer, originally from Middlewich near Manchester, but now based in New York City. The beautiful top model is Coco Rocha, I love her in Comics theme. The shoot is titled “Daring Do”, it was an editorial for Vogue US, May 2008. I love everything about this shoot, hair, make, styling, theme.. very inspiring. A lot of comic actors derive their main force from childish behavior. Most great comics are doing such silly things; you’d […]

“Rocking paper & scissor”

10/07/2011 by chicquero

Matthew Brodie is a London based fashion, beauty, still-life editorial and advertising photographer, working in fashion, music and envolved with tons of cool projects. This is an editorial for Madame Magazine called “Paper Dresses” and it really is all made of paper. Colours are so vibrant, specially combined with the bandage, pleating and kinda like a laser cut thing! It totally stands out and take the shoot to the next level. Maybe it could be a good call for a Halloween costume, […]
