My body is a landscape

12/04/2012 by chicquero

Californian photographer Jean Paul Bourdier creates haunting photo graphics that show his viewers the environment from inside out by painting the bodies of the models, which makes them look like one with the desert landscape. Bourdier is the author of Bodyscapes (introduction and dvd by Trinh T. Minh-ha), co-author with Trinh Minh-ha of Vernacular Architecture of West Africa, Habiter un monde, African Spaces and Drawn from African Dwellings. Production designer of seven films and co-director of two films directed by Trinh T. […]

Bodyscapes

08/10/2012 by chicquero

American photographer Allan Teger has been creating this series (his first) since 1976, with new images being made until today. The trained psychologist and self-taught photographer actually started the series as part of his study of psychology. It soon evolved into a prolific series: “collectible, sensual, and erotic” in which “naked female and male forms become ski slopes, fishing holes, golf courses, and places where motorcycles, horses, rowboats, sailboats,  biplanes, and mountain climbers play.” Can you imagine what I would […]

Josh Sommers - Stereographic Projections photography chicquero

Little Planets

05/27/2012 by chicquero

The works of american artist Josh Sommers carve out their context, somewhere along the boundaries of landscape photography, art, mathematics, and technology.  There’s a crispness to these photos, in that they appear to have been planned from the beginning instead of having an effect slapped on afterward. The stereographic projection, in geometry, is a particular mapping (function) that projects a sphere onto a plane. The projection is defined on the entire sphere, except at one point — the projection point. It is conformal, meaning that it preserves angles. It is neither isometric nor […]

03/23/2012 by chicquero

Lights. I’m amazed by lights all the time… no matter what kind it is (it could be the moonlight or even the Xmas lights)! This post is a selection of truly stunning photographs by various photographers with use of lights, whether it’s natural light or not. It’s a mix of different types of lights, caused by the city or the beautiful lights from nature. Very cool! “The stars are the street lights of eternity.” >>>YOU MAY ALSO LIKE<<< Man, star and moon Enlightened souls Oh […]

Yes, carved books!

03/09/2012 by chicquero

Wow! For the better part of three decades multidisciplinary artist Guy Laramee (he´s so gifted)  as worked as a stage writer, director, composer, a fabricator of musical instruments, a singer, sculptor, painter and writer. Among his sculptural works are two incredible series of carved book landscapes and structures entitled Biblios and The Great Wall.  The dense pages of old books are excavated to reveal serene mountains, plateaus and ancient structures besides thinking about the environment by using old books to create amazing art! I see art when I look at the mirror.

01/13/2012 by chicquero

Dutch multidisciplinary artist Levi van Veluw  has a particular way of creating self-portraits ( drawn and photographed by himself: a one-man-process). His work is composed by elemental transfers, modifying the face as object, combining it with other stylistic elements to create a third visual object of very cool visual impact. His imagery contains the history of a short creative process, with the artist shifting between the entities of subject and object. Working with familiar elements such as a ballpoint-lines, landscapes, […]

No, you’re not colourblind.

12/21/2011 by chicquero

Infra Speaking of spectrum of different lights (well, I guess for some reason we’re inspired by this topic today since the post before this one is a fashion editorial with some particular nuances of lighting) I was completely amazed by photographer Richard Mosse‘s work. For centuries, the Congo, Africa has compelled and defied the Western imagination. This series called “Infra” brings to this subject the use of a discontinued military surveillance technology, a type of color infrared film called Kodak […]

A minimal shot of a random spot.

11/10/2011 by chicquero

It looks like German photographers are talented in capturing (and finding) minimalist landscapes.  Here is Klaus Leontjew, German photographer based in Oldenburg with amazing sense of color and a great eye for geometric compositions. His target is usually , buildings in construction, parking lots, grocery stores, manufacturing plants and sort of random places like that… Love to see the color blocking and stripes in his minimal artwork! So cool!   “I shut my eyes in order to see”. Paul Gauguin
