Cutest feminine silhouettes

11/13/2012 by chicquero

Based in London, Fabrice Le Nezet is a director/designer/artist doing “aesthetic research,” combining sculpture, fashion, architecture and toy design. Using symmetrical shapes, expressive and elegant silhouettes, and a muted neon pastel palette, he has brought to life his latest “Women’s Spring/Summer 2012″ series via this photo series. Besides the cuteness, we love the way he captures femininity in a fresh, charming and funny vibe. A woman should never be seen eating or drinking, unless it be lobster salad and Champagne, […]

Coolest Toy Sculptures

10/25/2012 by chicquero

Amazing toy sculptures by the Australian artist Freya Jobbins. Provocative, funny and disturbing at the same time, Jobbins has re-purposed old children’s dolls in an unusual way, by assembling them into three dimensional portraits known as ‘dollfaces’. Freya uses the toys in a way to create caricature-like facial features of a somewhat grotesque nature. An impressive sculptural work, an artistic exploration of the relationship between consumerism and the culture of recycling, certainly bringing your attention to the point with the absurdist humanoid forms. “My work explores […]

Virgin POP Mary!

10/05/2012 by chicquero

French artist / sculptor Soasig Chamaillard created a polemic series of pop culture characters, from found or damaged miniature statues of the iconic Virgin Mary. “I grew up in a Christian Western society. My perspective on life has been a result of my environment and background. The playful interaction of society’s many icons, physical transformations, and the resulting improbable combinations, have culminated in my vision of a woman’s role and place in our society. This inner questioning of a woman’s role, has led me to use […]

Spitting on Capitalism!

08/06/2012 by chicquero

Tom Sachs is a sculptor, probably best known for his elaborate recreations of various Modern icons, all of them masterpieces of engineering and design of one kind or another. A lot has been made of the conceptual underpinnings of these sculptures: how Sachs’ sampling capitalist culture, remixing, dubbing and spitting it back out again, so that the results are transformed and transforming. Equally, if not more important, is his total embrace of “showing his work.” All the steps that led […]

Artistic library?

02/15/2012 by chicquero

Amerian artist Nick Georgiou´s work of art is inspired by the death of the printed word. Books and newspapers are becoming artifacts of the 21st century. As a society we’re shifting away from print consumption and heading straight towards full digital lives.  According to Nick, her sculptures (love the textures and effects) are products of their environment —both literally and figuratively. As often as she can, she uses local newspapers to add authenticity, and the form the sculpture takes is a reflection of the […]

High Speed Liquid and Bubble Photographs by Heinz Maier chicquero

High Speed Liquid and Bubbles

11/04/2011 by chicquero

Bubbly Art  German photographer Heinz Maier created a fabulous technique of high-speed photography, shooting colorful liquids. That´s a pretty neat job considering that he began taking photographs less than a year ago in late 2010. He is focusing in experimenting macro photography, mostly insects, animals, and these superb high-speed water droplets. These photographs/sculptures are simply outstanding. Take a look at the colors, lighting, and the reflection of water, it’s hard to believe these aren’t digital. Keep it up, we love it! Check it […]

Life is irrational

10/24/2011 by chicquero

Philippe Ramette The French artist Philippe Ramette creates great imagery whose purpose is not so much their daily ordinary application.  In his words, “I imagine what we could see,” and then stages his ideas in photographs. Based in some bizarre situations, he constructs awkward images of rational, carefully planned irrational situations (if that makes any sense). Philippe Ramette is the man in the suit that you see in these photographs, the gravity-defying is not a trick.  Philippe goes to fantastic […]
